“The incident is really unfortunate. I don’t know the reason behind the attack but it happened all of a sudden. Around 4 rounds were fired. The vehicle I was in was attacked. I am sure if police inquires properly they will be able to identify the assailant,” Naresh Yadav was quoted as saying.
Yadav was accompanied by volunteers of AAP, police is investigating
At the time of attack, Yadav was accompanied by volunteers. He was returning from a temple in Mehrauli. Naresh Yadav had won from Mehrauli assembly seat.
The AAP won in 62 constituencies with a voting percentage of 53.57. The BJP got eight seats with vote share of 38.51 per cent.
The Congress drew a blank for the second successive assembly elections in Delhi.
According to police sources, shots were allegedly fired at two people present in Naresh Yadav’s convoy.
However, the Delhi Police has said that the attack is believed to be a result of gang war between two groups. The victim, who died during the firing, have earlier allegedly shot at the other group — the attackers who sprayed bullets at Naresh Yadav’s convoy.
At least six-seven bullet shells have been found at the crime scene and further investigation is underway, police sources said.
