The Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) Tuesday evening raided the house of former Union Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram. The raid in Jorbagh, New Delhi came after the Delhi High Court turned down Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail plea. The decision has opened up the possibility of arrest.
However, the six-member CBI team did not find the former Union Finance Minister at his home.
P Chidambaram had applied for a bail anticipating arrest in connection with the corruption and money laundering cases related to INX Media scandal. He had also sought a time of three days after his petition was rejected, but the court denied it to.
Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal moved the Supreme Court on Chidambaram’s behalf but the apex court refused an urgent hearing. The Supreme Court will take up the matter tomorrow.
Later Sibal met Chidambaram and and discussed with him the situation after the Delhi HC order. Senior advocates Salman Khurshid and Abhishek Manu Singhvi had also joined the deliberations in SC.
Chidambaram is accused of giving FDI clearances to INX Media Group for receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore while he was the finance minister.
