P Chidambaram preferred to stand throughout the proceedings on Thursday when the special CBI court heard arguments granting his custody to the probe agency. The former finance and home minister refused to sit throughout the court proceedings. He was also seen smiling from time to time.
Chidambaram was arrested in a dramatic fashion Wednesday night and was brought to a CBI court on Thursday in connection with the INX Media media case.
The former union minister kept standing throughout despite requests from the judge, solicitor General Tushar Mehta and the CBI to sit.
“No, no… it is okay… I will stand,” Chidambaram responded to the repeated pleas to sit.
The veteran Congress leader was offered a chair near the accused box, but he refused to sit on it. It is reported that he stood in the accused box with a smile on his face all through the proceedings.
Chidambaram was also seen greeting fellow lawyers as he entered the court.
