The former union home and finance minister P Chidambaram has received a major setback after Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail.
While rejecting the plea for anticipatory bail, the Supreme Court added that P Chidambaram was free to apply for regular bail to seek any further relief.
The order was reserved by the Bench of Justices R Banumathi and AS Bopanna on August 29. While reserving the order, the Court had extended Chidambaram’s interim protection from arrest in the ED case till today. But today SC said that ED could arrest Chidambaram to investigate further.
The Supreme Court has also said that Chidambaram won’t be shown all the interrogation transcripts. The court has said that interim bail to the former minister can hamper the investigation at this stage.
The case is pertaining to the INX Media case money laundering in which Indrani Mukherjee, one of the owners of the company has agreed to turn into an approver.
The CBI arrested P Chidambaram in a mid-night drama on August 21. Since then, P Chidambaram has been under CBI custody.
