The Congress Working Committee has rejected the offer of Rahul Gandhi to resign as president of the Indian National Congress. The offer to resign was an informal one (probably oral). The CWC rejected it. This happened despite the fact that Rahul Gandhi did insist on his resignation a couple of times.
The Maharashtra Congress leader Ashok Chavan was the first to say that it wasn’t Rahul Gandhi’s fault alone but the entire top state leadership of the respective states.
However, according to the sources heads at the state level would role soon. In fact, three resignation have already come in.
As the CWC members came out there were no smiles on their faces and stepped out quiet sombrely without talking to media persons.
Now there is a likelihood of the party being re-structured, sources say.
Congress won just 52 seats in 2019 Lok Sabha which was just eight more than what they won the last time around in 2014 LS polls mostly riding on Punjab and Kerala’s success. BJP won on its own a huge 302 seats, an improvement of 20 seats compared to the 2014 performance.
It is learnt that party national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala will shortly hold a press conference regarding the latest in the Congress party.
