A traffic cop was beaten to death in Delhi and his body hidden in a deserted area, police officials said. The policeman has been identified as 25-year-old Dinesh Kumar. He was a resident of Sector 17 in Rohini.

Police said a body with injury marks on the head was found at the Shahabad Dairy area in Rohini on November 29. However, his identity was only confirmed yesterday. Kumar had joined the Delhi Police in 2014. He was posted with the Delhi Police traffic circle at Parliament Street, the officer said.

Police said it appeared that the cop was beaten to death at some other place and the body was dumped at an isolated place elsewhere.

A case has been lodged and the matter is being investigated, senior police officer Rajneesh Gupta said.

CCTV cameras installed near the area are being checked to gain clues about those responsible, he said.

Meanwhile, the body was handed over to Kumar’s family after the post-mortem.
