Former India vice-captain Gautam Gambhir has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party today. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad welcomed him.
He was also the part of the Indian team which won the first T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup in 2011.

Gambhir was born and brought up in Delhi. He was a student of Modern School Barakhamba and later the Hindu College.
Gambhir has played 58 Test matches for the country and 150 ODIs. There is a likelihood of Gambhir fighting the elections from New Delhi parliamentary constituency, which mainly comprises Moti Nagar, Patel Nagar, Greater Kailash, Malviya Nagar, Kasturba Nagar. Apart from Gambhir, Meenakshi Lekhi is also another candidate who is has thrown in her hat in the ring.
