The criminal cases against the 62-year-old woman and her family members include of robberies, bootlegging and contract killing

The Hush Post: Notorious as “Godmother of Crime, a 62-year-old woman has been arrested in Delhi. The woman criminal was arrested from the Sangam Vihar locality of south Delhi.

Identified as Basiran, she was wanted in several criminal cases and had been declared a proclaimed offender. She was also wanted in the murder of a man, a report said.

The police said that as many as 113 criminal cases had been registered against the female criminal. The criminal cases against her include murder, contract killing, robberies, bootlegging, and snatchings. These cases stand registered against Basiran and her family members, the report said.

The police arrested Basiran from Sangam Vihar following a tip-off. She had come to the area to meet her family members to decide further strategy in connection with the seizure of her property, DCP (South) Romil Baaniya reportedly said.

A partially decomposed body was found from the jungle of Sangam Vihar in September 2017. An FIR was lodged in connection with that murder and in that connection, a juvenile was apprehended in January 2018, the police said. The juvenile then revealed the names of his accomplices as Aakash, Vikash, Neeraj, Munni Begum and Basiran, the police said.

After the co-accused was arrested, Basiran fled away and was evading her arrest since then, the DCP said.

In that case, Basiran had been declared a proclaimed offender (PO) on May 25 this year. Subsequently, her property attached and sealed, the report said.

Basiran had filed an application for anticipatory bail at Delhi High Court and also sought the release of her property at Saket Court. But, the police objected to it, citing Basiran’s past criminal background following which both applications were rejected by the courts, the report said.

During her interrogation, Basiran confessed of having taken a contract of Rs 60,000 to kill Miraz who was a step-brother of one of the accused Munni Begum. Basiran along with her accomplices hatched a conspiracy to kill Miraz, the report said.

Basiran was reportedly absconding for the last eight months and was hiding in Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Mainpuri and Firozabad cities, the police said.

According to the police, a case of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA) has been registered against her son Shamim. Basiran and her other family members will also be booked in a case for amassing wealth from criminal activities, the police said.
