Security officials at the Delhi Airport have arrested a South African woman for allegedly carrying five kilograms of heroin. The market value of the seize is estimated to be around Rs 20 crore.
A police official said that the woman had arrived at the Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday from South Africa via Doha by Qatar Airlines flight.
The custom officials intercepted the woman after she had crossed the Green Channel. They found a white coloured powdery substance with granules on searching her pesonal luggage.
The woman had stuffed the heroine in two brown coloured packets concealed in a checked-in trolley bag. It weiged 4900 grams, said officials.
Officials seized the drug and arrested the woman under relevant provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
For the purpose of custom clearance of the arriving passengers, a two-channel system is in place. Green Channel is for passengers not having any dutiable goods while the Red Channel is for the passengers carrying dutiable goods.
