Historic Ayodhya verdict awaited today

A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court will deliver judgement in the sensitive Ayodhya land case at 1:030 am today.

Security has been beefed up at the Supreme Court premises.  Security of the five judges has been heightened. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi who heads the  Bench will retire on Nov 17.  Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, who will succeed Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi is also a part of the Bench.

The son of YV Chandrachud, the longest-serving Chief Justice of India, is another member of the Bench.

Justice Abdul Nazeer, another judge of the Bench, made headlines in August 2017, when he ,along with then Chief Justice JS Khehar, ruled that while the practice of triple talaq is “sinful in theology”, the Supreme Court cannot interfere in personal laws.

Justice Ashok Bhushan, another member of the Bench, practised as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court before being elevated to the post of judge in April 2001.

Schools have been shut in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and some other states till Monday.

60 companies of paramilitary force, RPF and PAC and 1200 police constables, 250 Sub-inspectors, 20 Dy-SPs & 2 SPs deployed have been deployed in Ayodhya. Double layer barricading, public address system, 35 CCTVs and 10 drones have been deployed for security surveillance.

Section 144 has been imposed in sensitive areas in Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Delhi.
