US law enforcement authorities arrested and deplaned an Indian pilot for downloading child pornography this Monday, on March 04. The Mumbai-based pilot was handcuffed as soon as the flight from New Delhi landed in San Francisco. The pilot who has been arrested is around 50 years old and is employed as a first officer and operates flights to United States frequently. Under current rules and regulations, air carriers operating America-bound flights must transmit to the US Bureau of Custom & Border Protection, the manifest and crew details within 15 minutes post departure of flight.

According to the sources, FBI waited for the pilot to re-enter the US. However he was arrested and his visa was cancelled. After that he was put back to the flight to New Delhi.

“It was later learnt that he had been under scanner of the FBI for last two months as he was downloading child pornography. Also, his internet usage in hotels during his layovers in the US was monitored to gather evidences. FBI has apparently sent a sealed report with evidence to the Indian authorities.”, said the sources.

A spokesperson from the airlines said that he was deported due to some visa issues. But three independent sources reported that the visa issues were in relation to child pornography charges only.

American federal law defines child pornography as depicting sexually explicit conduct in a visual form which involves minors. The United States Code prohibits “any persons outside of the United States to knowingly produce, receive, transport, ship or distribute child pornography with internet to import or transmit the visual depiction into the United States.”

In 2014, FBI conducted an uncommon investigation. They inspected a site called “Playpen” which hosted child pornography. As the media reports state, the agency obtained a search warrant and seized the server hosting the site. However, FBI continued to operate the site instead of shutting it down. During the time it was applied for, it sent malware to thousands of visitors to site.

The FBI’s malware searched for and copied certain identifying information from user’s computers. With this information, FBI searched thousands of computers located all across the world. Through this investigation, the American government then prosecuted hundreds of people in the country.
