Kamal Nath’s nephew Ratul Puri escapes from ED office on pretext of using washroom

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamaln Nath’s nephew Ratul Puri allegedly befooled the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Friday. The ED had summoned Puri for questioning in connection with money laundering in the Augusta Westland scam.

ED officials have alleged Ratul Puri escaped out of the Enforcement Directorate on the pretext of going to the washroom. Officials said Puri sought some time from them to go to the loo, but never returned. They said they tried to contact Ratul Puri on phone, but it was switched off. The agency is now planning to summon him again for questioning.

Ratul Puri, who heads Hindustan Power Projects Private Limited, has also been questioned in the case earlier. He is the son of Deepak Puri and Neeta who is Kamal Nath’s sister. Deepak Puri is the CMD of optical storage media firm Moser Baer.

The VVIP helicopter Augusta Westland deal was cancelled by India after it emerged that kickbacks worth 3.600 crore rupees were paid. CBI and the ED are investigating the case. The probe agencies have filed many charge sheets in the case.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court provided some relief to Ratul Puri, granting him anticipatory bail till July 29.
