Akali leader Manjit Singh GK has resigned as president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). Parminderpal Singh, Media advisor to GK, confirmed the development. The charge of president of DSGMC has been handed over to senior vice-president Harmeet Singh Kalka.
Nonetheless, GK has not resigned from the party. His media advisor told News 18 GK was upset with the Akali Dal leadership. He was not happy with the party’s handling of the sensitive issue of sacrilege of Sikh holy texts in Punjab.
GK’s resignation has come as a big blow to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Though, in the same breath in a facebook interview to News 18 he said he will be back and that he hasn’t resigned. It is just a temporary charge he has handed over to Kalka.
Gk himself had faced the ire of the Sikhs recently in the US. He was physically assaulted by pro-Khalistan individuals in New York and later in California.
