The Hush Post: Three passengers were injured when a window panel of an Air India aircraft came off after it ran into severe turbulence just minutes after taking off. The incident, which was reported on Amritsar-Delhi flight on Thursday (April 19), also created panic among the passengers. Luckily, it was only the inner part the panel of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (VT-ANI) which came off and fell on the passengers. The outside part did not break and there was no de-pressurization.
According to the Times of India (TOI), the first 10-15 minutes of the climb proved to be frightening for the passengers. Some overhead oxygen masks also got deployed during the incident and some cracks were also witnessed on the overhead panel cover.
. “The turbulence on AI 462 was such that the head of a seated passenger, who possibly did not have his seat belt fastened, hit the overhead cabin because of a bump. The person suffered injuries. Two more had minor injuries”, the TOI quoted sources as saying.
The injured were rushed to the hospital on landing in Delhi and took their connecting flights after getting the first aid.
Meanwhile, the DGCA has launched a probe into the freak incident. It has also informed the Aircraft Accident Invesigation Board (AAIB).
