The Hush Post: Fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi’s luxury apartment in New York has been seized. Diamond-studded rings and gold bangles are some of the other assets seized by authorities.
According to a news report, the seized properties are in India, UK and New York. The assets are worth Rs 637 crore. They have been attached as part of five separate orders issued by the central probe agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Also, the agency has got an Interpol Red Corner notice against Aditya Nanavati, another accused in the same case.
In March, the Enforcement Directorate had seized valuables worth over Rs 36 crore belonging to Nirav Modi.
There are very few instances where Indian agencies have attached assets abroad.
Nirav Modi is one of the main accused in the Rs 12,600 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. He defrauded the Brady House branch of the Punjab National Bank in Mumbai for an amount of $2 billion (about 13,000 crore) in connivance with bank officials.
