Former PM Indira Gandhi’s trusted aide RK Dhawan dies

The Hush Post: Rajinder Kumar Dhawan popularly known as RK Dhawan passed away in the national capital on Monday. He was 81 years old. The former Rajya Sabha MP was a trusted aide of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He started out as Gandhi’s personal assistant. He was with her from 1962. After she became the Prime Minister, Dhawan’s responsibilities increased and he remained with Indira Gandhi until the day she was assassinated in 1984.RK dhawan

Dhawan was also a part of the former PM’s innermost circle during the Emergency years (1975-77).

Along with Ambika Soni and Kamal Nath, Dhawan was among the key characters of that period. Dhawan got married to Achla on July 16, 2012. Dhawan studied at Col. Brown Cabridge School, Dehradun and later went to Benaras Hindu University.

During Indira Gandhi’stenure as CM Dhawan was so powerful, he often spoke to many CMs as Indira’s man like Giani Zail Singh, Shyama Charan Shukla, Bansi Lal and others. Many a time, he even intervened and told Sanjay Gandhi certain certain things he should be away from. However, after 1984, October 31st his say in the Congress wasn’t as it was before.
