On Tuesday, a Delhi court issued summons to journalist Priya Ramani as an accused in the defamation case filed by former Union Minister MJ Akbar. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Samar Vishal passed the order. Ramani has been directed to appear before the court on 25 February.
In October 2018, although several women levelled allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment against Akbar, he filed a defamation complaint against Ramani alone. Ramani was the first woman to accuse Akbar of sexual harassment during the #MeToo movement.
Meanwhile, hours after the summon notice, Ramani responded with a chirpy tweet. She said that the “time has come to tell our side of the story.”

On October 17, 2018, Akbar resigned from the union cabinet after the sexual allegations. His advocate Geeta Luthra and lawyer Sandeep Kapur told the court that Ms Ramani had damaged Akbar’s reputation.
