Undoubtedly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to control the future of the world. Taking large scale companies as well as start-ups into account, every founder is focusing on AI and the algorithms that can help their business meet the demands and expectations of customers and investors. The global Artificial Intelligence chip market size in 2018, was calculated to be $6,638 million and is expected to reach $91,185.1 million by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 45.2% from 2019 to 2025.
There are more than 1,000 companies in India that are working on AI in one or the other form. This number may include small companies that work for chatbots, visual search or large companies that offer offshore software development, recruitment services or training.
“There are not many AI experts in India. But, the opportunities and demand are tremendous, especially with other countries like the US and China putting their weight behind the opportunities of using AI in business and daily life” says Hemanth G, co-founder of Xpheno that works on offering talent solutions. Professionals now believe there is no better time than now to be skilled in AI and witness promising career growth. Consecutively, the demand for Artificial Intelligence courses in India has increased.
The amazing inventions and innovative technologies have made AI and Machine Learning rule the world.
Who is an Artificial Intelligence Engineer?
Artificial Intelligence involves the techniques that are required to make machines mimic or copy humans. The human intelligence qualities such as visual perception, decision making, translating languages and speech recognition are put into the computer systems so that they can perform these tasks.
AI Engineers are the people who use AI technology for problem-solving. AI engineers extract data from various resources available and develop and test their own data models, deploy those models using either API calls or embedded code to create AI-infused applications. Besides building and deploying the models, AI engineers are required to understand the problems, handle system maintenance and improve it in every possible way. AI engineers don’t write code, they are the one who can make decisions about the system itself. As an AI engineer, you need to navigate the learning models of neural networks and the value to the business they provide.
If your organization is using AI techniques, it will always be in need of someone who creates and evaluates the algorithms. As a result, AI engineering is a blend of data engineering, software development, and data science.
In order to meet the demand of an organization, AI engineers must know the various systems that include cloud-native systems and chips. The candidate should be an expert in the principles of deep learning. They also need to decide the position of models that are ready to be deployed and maintain them for accuracy. This all should be done while keeping in mind that there are no unintended consequences.
Demand for AI Engineers in India
According to Economic Times, AI professionals are getting a 60-80 percent hike in salary while switching jobs, as compared to other skills that are getting a 20-30 percent hike in salary. The reason behind this is a gap between demand and supply. As long as there is a mismatch in demand-supply, it will drive salary up for professionals with AI expertise.
There are only a few AI professionals in India. The average experience of AI professionals in India is just three years, and 67% of them have joined or switched into the field in the past two years on seeing the huge demand and salary hikes. The contrasting fact is that about 57 percent of the companies that are hiring AI professionals in India demand for candidates who have at least five years of experience. The candidates who are skilled in image-based analytics, natural language processing and generation, chatbots and machine learning are in the highest demand.
An executive vice-president group human capital and leadership development at Mahindra & Mahindra, Prince Augustin, said that the group is in huge demand for new AI professionals and emerging technologies for businesses of various sectors. It is very difficult to find professionals in this space because the field is relatively new and changing fast and hence there is a lot of demand.
For AI Engineers, the salary at entry-level can be 70% plus premium over that of a computer science engineer. The professionals who have an IT experience of 8-10 years of experience and 2-3 years of experience in AI can easily get an annual package of Rs.50 lakhs, and may go up to Rs. 1 crore and may rise more, and for the candidates who are in senior strategic roles, the salaries are up to Rs. 2.5-3 crore.
Now that you have read about the increasing adoption of AI techniques by companies all over the world, you would wish to boost your career by adopting it for self. As AI continues to penetrate different industrial sectors, it is crucial for professionals to remain updated with the latest trends and techniques in AI. One of the best ways to do so is to opt for an online AI training course. There are reputed training providers whose AI courses are curated especially for beginners. You can start by learning the basic concepts of AI, and then continue with Python programming, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and more.
These days, many universities have collaborated with e-learning platforms to offer academic courses in AI. There are short term courses as well as postgraduate programs and one can choose a course that best suits his needs. All you need to do is a bit of research and get started.
