A Delhi court today sent Kashmiri separatist leaders Masarat Alam Bhat, Shabbir Shah and Asiya Andrabi to 10-day National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody in a terror funding case. The NIA arrested the three during in-chamber proceedings before Special Judge Rakesh Syal of the Patiala House Court.
The investigation agency sought a 15-day custodial interrogation, but the court granted 10 days instead. NIA told the court it wanted to interrogate the three together about the nexus behind stone-pelting incidents in the valley.
TERROR FUNDING LINKS ESTABLISHED: NIA
Reports say NIA and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have found terror-funding links between Asiya and Shabbir Shah. Asia and Shabbir were already in custody in separate cases while Alam was brought from Jammu and Kashmir on transit remand.
NIA counsel informed the court that Masarat Alam trained minor children in stone-pelting. Similarly, Asiya Andrabi brainwashed the children into stone-pelting. Shabbir Shah provided the money to both of them for the same, said NIA.
WHO IS MASARAT ALAM?
Masarat Alam is the man behind stone-pelting incidents in the valley which begun in 2008. He is known to be a close aide of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Srinagar police arrested Alam in 2015.
CASE INVOLVES HAFIZ SAEED
The case involves Jama’at-ud-Da’wah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, the 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind. NIA had filed a charge sheet in 2018 against Saeed, another terror mastermind Syed Salahuddin and 10 Kashmiri separatists in a case of alleged terror funding.
NIA registered a case under sections 120B of IPC (criminal conspiracy) and various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 in May, 2017.
