Two ABVP activists have been identified from Sunday’s violence in Jawahar Lal Nehru campus. One has been identified as Vikas Patel. The other one is Shiv Poojan Yadav.
However, the police have not confirmed any of it and are investigating the matter.
Out of all the video and pictures coming from Sunday’s violence at Delhi’s JNU by a masked mob, one sequence of photos appears to link the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the BJP-linked students union, to the attack.
More than 30 students were injured in yesterday’s violence.
In one image, Vikas Patel, a member of ABVP’s JNU executive committee, is seen with a group. He is with about a dozen young men armed with lathis.
Patel himself holds a baton. These batons are similar to those issued to the Delhi Police.
Standing next to him in a blue and yellow sweatshirt is a student identified as Shiv Poojan Mandal, a BA first-year student in JNU. He too is affiliated to the ABVP.
The photograph is said to be taken on Sunday afternoon, before the attack happened.
After the violence, these former students have deleted their social media accounts
In another set of photographs, Mandal can be seen with a bigger group of armed men.
Mandal also appears to be seen in a video shot at night, when the armed group is seen making a vanishing act from the JNU campus.

According to an NDTV report, both Patel and Mandal have deleted their social media accounts. Patel’s number can also be seen in a screenshot of a WhatsApp exchange of conversations in which a group of ABVP members are discussing an attack on Left students on the JNU campus.
The others in the Whatsapp screenshot seemingly include Yogendra Bharadwaj, a Sanskrit scholar at JNU, and Sandeep Singh, a PhD student also from the same campus.
Bharadwaj has since deleted his social media accounts. However, screenshots of his Twitter profile identify him as an ABVP member.
