The former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi has said that the EC’s decision to suspend an election observer in Odisha is unfortunate. The election observer was suspended for checking PM’s chopper.
The former CEC has also said that the EC was overlooking the repeated poll code violation by the PM.
Quraishi said in a statement that the suspension of the Karnataka cadre IAS officer was not only a missed opportunity by the election commission to restore its image but also a missed opportunity for the PM who too could restore his image.
He gave the example of Odisha CM Navin Patnaik, who remained dignified after his chopper was check by the election observer.
Quraishi said that both the EC and PM are under scanner – PM for repeated violation and EC for overlooking it. The raid on the chopper should have been an example and a demonstration to let everyone know that EC was behaving in an impartial manner.
