TOI lodges police complaint for photo-shopped headline making fun of PM Modi and Chinese premier

The Times of India photoshopped headline

The Hush Post: The BCCL has lodged a police complaint against unidentified persons who mischievously photo-shopped a headline that appeared on TOI’s front page on April 27.  The photo-shopped headline made fun of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese premier Xi Jingping.

As per the complaint those who photoshopped the headline shared it on social media which further amounted for offences under the Copyright Act, Trademark Act, IT Act as well as other penal laws.

The headline read “Modi, Xi will meet 6 times in 24 hours” which was distorted and later it read “Modi, Xi will mate 6 times in 24 hours”. According to the TOI the latter headline did not appear in any TOI edition.

The Times of India has clarified on Twitter, “A photoshopped image of our headline on the Modi-Xi meet is doing the rounds. All our editions carry the correct headline. You can see the difference when the correct and fake headlines are placed together. The TOI is working in close coordination with the cops and has zeroed in on suspects.
