Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has asked the Prime Minister to excuse him from joining the new government. He said he would always be available to discharge informal duties. He wrote to the PM saying that he was suffering from ill-health and wants to get in top shape before he could contribute in any way the PM likes.
Meanwhile, it is being learnt that Piyush Goyal is likely to be sworn in as the Union Finance Minister. Goyal has stepped in for Jaitley on a number of occasions in the past five years. Jaitley is the current Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of the Government of India. Earlier, he was also the defence minister of the country for sometime.
Jaitley is a aluminus of St. Xavier’s School, Delhi. Later, he joined Sriram College of Commerce. It was then that he joined Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and later BJP.
Last year, Arun Jaitley underwent a kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Earlier this year in January 2019, Jaitley unexpectedly left for the US for a medical check-up following the kidney transplant. He is right now recuperating at his Delhi home.
