The Hush Post: Two unidentified assailants shot dead a man in a busy Taimoor Nagar locality of Southeast Delhi. A CCTV camera in the area captured the incident that occurred on Sunday.
A 34-year-old Rupesh Kumar victim later succumbed to injuries in the hospital, a report said.
The cops are scanning the CCTV camera footage of the incident which took place in a crowded locality.
DCP (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said two unknown men fired at the victim. He later died at the hospital.
The footage shows two men walk past Rupesh in the street and one of them shoots him in the chest. The shooter then casually walks away and the victim falls to the ground, the report said.
Assailants have links with drug mafia, say area residents
Area residents say that the assailants have links with drug mafia active in the locality. Rupesh’s family claimed he was working against the sale of drugs, and this is the cause of his murder.
“Thousands of people buy drugs from these people. Taimoor Nagar provides a business of Rs 25-30 lakh every day. We have been working against the drug network in the area. The police are hand-in-glove with these people. I had written to top police officers, spoken to them on phone and even met a senior officer. They had promised action, but nothing was done. And now they have killed my brother,” said victim’s brother Umesh Kumar, who is also Taimoor Nagar’s RWA president.
Umesh said: “I can also be killed tomorrow, but I won’t stop.”
Meanwhile, Rupesh’s murder has sparked protests in the area where locals burnt two motorcycles and threw stones at the cops. The stone-pelting caused injuries to some policemen and one cop was taken to the hospital.
The police have managed to bring the situation under control, a cop said.
