Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra has revealed that he used to eat onions before going to shoot with co-star actress Asha Parekh. The reason, he says, is to suppress the odor of liquor.
Dharmendra recently appeared on a popular reality show “Super Star Singer” on Sony TV. He was accompanied by his co-stars of yesteryears – Asha Parekh and Waheeda Rehman. It was during the show that the actors made certain revelations.
The Bollywood superstar revealed a incident while he was shooting for the movie “Aye Din Bahar Ke” with Asha Parekh. He said, “We were shooting for the movie in Darjeeling. After the pack-up the crew members and the producers used to have night-long parties. And in the morning our mouths reeked of liquor. To hide this awful smell, I had onions. However, the foul smell of onions then offended Asha Parekh”.
Addressing Parekh, he further said, “I told you that to hide the smell of liquor I had onions and you even asked me to stop drinking. I heeded to your advice and quit drinking. We became good friends thereafter. We are like a family and those days were amazing. Today I feel nostalgic remembering those moments. But, they also give me strength.”
Responding to Dharmendra, Asha Parekh said, “Since he had promised, Dharmendra never touched a drop of liquor even during cold winters. There was a song in the movie in which Dharmendra had to dance in water. As soon he came out of water, he was offered Brandy. But then he used to look at me. I had told him that if he had liquor I will leave the sets. This continued for 2-3 days, but he never sipped liquor”.
