In an inebriate state, a 34-year-old man burnt his mother alive after pouring petrol on her. The incident took on Wednesday in Sangam Park Colony in Khoda locality of Ghaziabad. The condition of the 58-year-old woman is stated to be critical.
According to police, the incident took place when Mohan Lal arrived home drunk around 8 pm. His mother, Jhulsi Bhagwan Devi objected to his habit of drinking. This led to an altercation between the woman and her son.
Satendra Prakash, SHO of Khoda police station said, “After a lot of verbal altercation, Mohan allegedly picked up a stick and landed several blows on his mother. In a fit of rage, he later went out with a bottle and took out some petrol from his bike. Then, he allegedly poured the petrol on his mother and set her on afire”. After hearing the screams of the woman, neighbours rushed to the spot, extinguished the fire and admitted the woman to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Delhi. However, the accused son has been arrested.
On the basis of complaint filed by the woman’s younger son Raj Thakur, an FIR has been registered under various Indian?Penal?Code sections.
