In a string of accusations that have been voiced in Bollywood after actor Tanushree Dutta raised the #metoo movement, a Pandora’s box has opened up in Bollywood. Now, writer-director-producer Vinta Nanda of the famous ‘Tara’ TV serial of the 90s has come out with some daring revelation. She has accused a leading TV actor, identifying him as being “known as the most #Sanskaari person in the film and television industry”, of raping her in her home. She also alleged that he harassed the lead actress of TV show Tara and got her sacked when she complained.
Nanda also alleged that he, with fingers pointing at actor Alok Nath, had all her shows at the channel shut down. Nanda confirmed with news agency IANS that the culprit is indeed Alok Nath. It ultimately led to the closure of her production company.

Got her show shut down
In a long Facebook post, Nanda has written a harrowing account of her personal trauma. Nanda writes in her post that when she was producing and directing Tara, Alok Nath he was after the show’s main actress. The actress declined his advances. When they had him removed from the show, he first had the actress changed, the show’s storyline changed and came back into it before having it axed.
“We were called by the newly appointed CEO of the channel on the Monday of the following week and told to shut down the show, along with all our other shows,” she wrote.
“I was insulted and humiliated by the CEO, asked to get out of his office and told that women like me should be thrown out of the country,” Nanda wrote in her post.
Raped her in her own home
She alleged that he had her drink laced with some intoxicant at a party at his house. “I can remember more liquor being poured into my mouth and I remember being violated endlessly. When I woke up the next afternoon, I was in pain. I hadn’t just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalised,” she alleged.
She said that his wife was her best friend and they had been part of the same circle over the years. Twitter, where several users have shared Nanda’s post, has identified the actor as Alok Nath.
The #Metoo moment
On why she had remained silent for so many years, she said, “While she was working on this new series, he asked me to come to his house again and I went to allow him to violate me”.
“I needed the job and didn’t want to leave it as I needed the money. It was after this that I quit,”she wrote.
“The only reason I’m telling this story now is because I don’t want that any girl should ever fear holding the truth back,” she urged.
