Boney Kapoor had planned dinner date for Sridevi, fate had other plans; mortal remains expected in India today afternoon

The Hush Post: The Dubai police department has told an Indian news channel that the autopsy certificate could be received from the government by 8:30-9 am Dubai time (10-10:30 am IST) today. Once the report is clear, the mortal remains would be handed over to relatives and they will be allowed to take them to India.

According to reports in a Gulf -based newspaper Khaleej Times, after the wedding of Mohit Marwah on February 22 in Dubai, most of the guests and relatives returned to India, including Sridevi’s husband. Sridevi stayed back. On Saturday, when fate had planned something else for her, she was getting ready for a dream date with her husband in Dubai.

A source close to the family told the newspaper that Boney Kapoor had flown back from Mumbai on Saturday evening to “surprise” her. He woke her up and the couple chatted for about 15 minutes before asking her out for dinner. She went to the washroom, after 15 minutes passed and she did not come out and answer back, Kapoor forced open the door. He found her lying motionless in the bathtub full of water. “He tried to revive her and when he could not, he called a friend of his. After that, he informed the police at 9 pm,” said the source. The police and paramedics rushed to the site, but she was pronounced dead, according to the newspaper. Her body was straightaway taken to the General Department of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.

Why is it taking long for Sridevi’s mortal remains to reach India? There is a particular procedure that has to be followed in the UAE when any death takes place outside the hospital. Here is what is to be done:

  • Once forensic reports are handed over which normally takes 24 hours for all reports to come in, the body is taken to Muhaisna for embalming.
  • Police need to issue a death certificate
  • Indian consulate Dubai to cancel passport
  • Immigration department to complete administrative procedures
  • Public prosecutor to give permission to hand over the body
