The Hush Post: Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu shared the acting legend’s health update on Thursday and also mentioned about her recent outing without him. “29 June ’18 was one of the rare times I attended a social event without my Kohinoor (my Sahab) besides me. I went for the nikah of Nida, daughter of Asif Farooqui. I felt lonely without Sahab, but was overjoyed to bless the couple and interact with so many of you,” Banu tweeted from Dilip Kumar’s Twitter account. She also posted a picture of herself from the wedding. Saira Banu operates Dilip Kumar’s Twitter account.
Last year in November, Dilip Kumar was hospitalised after he suffered from pneumonia. Before that, he was hospitalised for a brief period for dehydration and kidney malfunction. His health is regularly updated on Twitter. Dilip Kumar will turn 96 this December. Satyajit Ray had described him as ‘the ultimate method actor’. He debuted as an actor in the film Jwar Bhata in 1944 produced by Bombay Talkies. His career has spanned over six decades and with over 60 films. He married Saira Banu in 1966.
Dilip Kumar was first in love with actress Kamini Kaushal, but she was already married. Subsequently, he was also in love with the actress Madhubala but they had to part ways as her family was opposed to their marriage. He married actress Saira Banu, who was 22 years younger than him. He married a second time in 1980 to Asma but the marriage ended soon after.
Films like Andaz (1949), Aan (1952), Devdas (1955), Azaad (1955), Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and Ganga Jamuna (1961) are some of his best works. In 1976, Dilip Kumar took a five-year break.
Dilip Kumar was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 2015, the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994, and a national award in Pakistan as well.
