The Hush Post: Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor is no more. Shashi Kapoor breathed his last on Monday evening. He was 79. Born in Kolkata during the British Raj on March 18, 1938, he was the youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor and widower of Jennifer Kapoor, who died way back in 1984. He is survived by his son Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor and daughter Sanjana Kapoor. In 2011, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the government for his contributions to art and cinema. In 2015, he was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke award, making him the third in his family to receive the highest award. He also received three National Awards for films like Junoon, In Custody, and New Delhi Times.
He started acting as a child artiste in his elder brother Raj Kapoor’s film Aag released in 1948. He acted in some of the best known movies of the times including Prem Patra, Jab Jab Phool Khile, Yeh Dil Kisko Dun, Neend Hamari Khwab Tumhare, Sharmilee, Patanga,Deewar, Junoon, Suhaag and many dozens of others. Apart from it, he also acted in many English films like Siddhartha, Pretty Polly, Bombay Talkie, Heat and Dust, Jinnah, Side streets, etc. Later, in his career he produced Junoon, 36 Chowrungee Lane, Kalyug, Utsav and Ajoooba.
