The Hush Post: Deceased Bollywood actor Sridevi’s name has been removed from the list of the departed personalities that were to be paid tributes in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly. Her name was earlier included in the list and the tributes were to be paid on Tuesday; however, it was modified in the last minute. Besides, departed actor Shashi Kapoor’s name was also dropped from the list which had eleven names in all.
The Budget Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly had begun on Monday with the address of Governor Anandiben Patel. Traditionally, rich tributes are paid to departed political and public personalities on the first day of the session. However, since Anandibai Patel was to address the House on Monday, the tributes were not paid.
It is unclear as to why her name was dropped from the list. However, according to reports published in different media websites, Madhya Pradesh Speaker Dr. Sitasharan Sharma dropped Sridevi’s name from the list on being asked by parliamentary affairs minister Dr. Narottam Mishra, though the reasons haven’t been made public. Media reports claim that the state BJP leaders took the decision to avoid any political controversy after reports had surfaced that Sridevi died after consuming liquor.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party has objected to the move stating that Sridevi was a Padma awardee and hence deserved tributes from the House.
