Ranbir Kapoor’s makeover in ‘Sanju’ as Munnabhai was not an easy job; WATCH VIDEO

How Ranbir Kapoor became Sanju

The Hush Post: Sanju has become an iconic film, the biggest blockbuster this year yet. To essay the role of Munnabhai, another iconic character in the film Munnabhai MBBS, which means playing two characters, the original and the original’s character role, in itself was a Hurculean task.

Well, to explain how it was done, what it took to make what appeared on screen, the makers of the film Sanju, FoxStarHindi, have released a video which reveals how Ranbir turned Munnabhai with the help of a brigade of hair, skin and make-up experts for the correct look.  The physicality of the character Sanjay Dutt included copying his hair style, trademark gait, his smile, among other things, and how he played Munnabhai, the character. Ranbir says he took around 13 look tests, after which he lost count.

The other part was of performing like Sanjay Dutt, the “Mount Everest” as Ranbir calls the task,  which had to be genuinely portrayed on the silver screen for which Ranbir had to get into the skin of the character, asking Hirani thousands of questions all the time and watching Sanjay’s films uncountable number of times. Hirani too had to recall and recreate all the scenes that happened during the making of the film Munnabhi MBBS.
Sharing the video, Hirani tweeted, “Watch #RanbirKapoor’s surreal transformation to Munna Bhai- http://bit.ly/MunnaBhaiMakingVideo … #Sanju @FoxStarHindi @VVCFilms #RajkumarHiraniFilms.”

The scenes may look very spontaneous and effortless on screen, but preparing and shooting for them was anything but easy for Ranbir. “When I was a child, I had a poster of Sanju sir on the wall of my cupboard, and through this film, I am in his shoes,” said Ranbir Kapoor. What more can an actor ask for in his acting career.

The other actors who did justice to their roles include Paresh Rawal as Sanjay’s father Sunil Dutt and Manisha Koirala as Sanjay’s mom Nargis. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, Vicky Kaushal and Jim Sarbh, among others.
