First woman DSP takes charge in Chandigarh

The Hush Post, Chandigarh: Recently promoted as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) two Chandigarh cadre inspectors Harjeet Kaur and Daleep Rattan have taken  charge of their new posts. But they are yet to be assigned duties.

On January 23 2018, the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) had promoted two Chandigarh police inspectors namely Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in-charge Harjeet Kaur and Daleep Rattan, who was posted in the Crime Branch, on the basis of their seniority.

Inspector Daleep Rattan had joined Chandigarh police as an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in January 1987.

On her taking the charge of her new post as a DSP, Harjeet Kaur has become the first female inspector of Chandigarh cadre to be promoted as a DSP. Though, Chandigarh already has two female DSPs but both of them are from Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli (DANIPS) cadre.

Harjeet Kaur as a sub inspector in the Chandigarh police was also the first woman cop of the region to be selected for the UN mission in Kosovo, 2004. Harjeet Kaur had joined as ASI in 1989 and rose to the rank of DSP
