Five pilots of the Air India have tested positive for the COVID-19. “Five Air India pilots have tested positive for coronavirus. These pilots were tested one after one. We suspect it could be a case of faulty testing kit as well,” one of the sources said.
Sources in the airlines further said that all the pilots are asymptomatic and based in Mumbai. “They had undertaken cargo flights to China,” they said.
The pilots tested positive during the pre-flight Covid test which is carried out 72 hours before they are rostered for flight duties.
The five pilots fly Boeing 787 planes. According to a report, a senior airline official said that the five pilots had not operated any flight in the last three weeks. The last to fly any of the planes was on April 20.
The national carrier has been operating through the lockdown period. They were rescuing Indians stranded in COVID-19 nations, including Italy and Iran, which saw a very high number of COVID-19 cases.
