The officials of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) were shocked when they unearthed a mass copying incident where 959 students of class 12th were involved.
The incident is one of the biggest mass-copying incidents in GSHSEB’s history. The results of the students involved have been withheld till 2020 and they have been failed in the subjects they cheated.
The officials worked on several complaints and thoroughly checked the answer sheets of the examination centres from where the incidents were reported. The centres are reportedly in Junagarh and Gir-Somnath districts.
The 959 students wrote the same answers for the questions in the same sequence and committed the same mistakes.
At a centre, 200 students reportedly wrote the same essay “Dikri Ghar Ni Divdi (daughter is earthen lamp of family)” in the same sequence from start to end.
An official of GSHSEB said, “The subjects in which the mass copying instance took place included Accounting, Economics, English Literature and Statistics. The board is planning to cancel examination centres at Amrapur (Gir-Somnath), Visanvel (Junagadh) and Prachi-Pipla (Gir-Somnath) for Class 12th general stream.”
Some of the students reportedly said that the teachers dictated them the answers during the examination.
Sources said, exam, “Many candidates paid annual fees of about Rs 35,000 to the self-financed schools here only so that they could pass the exam. These students were shown as ‘regular’ students. The students claimed that they attended classes for only about two weeks.”
