Asaram Bapu’s son gets life imprisonment in 2013 rape case

Asaram’s son Narayan Sai was sentenced to life imprisonment by Surat session Court on Tuesday in a rape case. On April 26, the Court had pronounced him guilty of raping a girl in 2013. The police had arrested him from Pipli near Kurukshetra in December 2013. Also, his father Asaram is an accused in the case which was registered in October 2013.

The two sisters had filed separate cases against Narayan Sai and Asaram. One of the sister accused Narayan Sai that he had done repeated sexual assaults during their stay at Asaram ashram between 2002 and 2005 in Surat.

Similar allegations were made by her elder sister against Asaram while she was living in his ashram during 1997 and 2006 in Ahmedabad.

The police had arrested both Asaram and Narayan Sai on charges of sexual assault, illegal confinement, rape and other offences.

Last year, Asaram was convicted for life for raping a minor in Rajasthan. Two charge sheets were filed against 35 people, while the prosecution had produces 53 witnesses and defence had 14 witnesses. Also, four of Sai’s aides were arrested.

However, the arrests of Asaram and his son sparked a series of attacks on the key witnesses. Three witnesses related to the case were killed. One of these three, Amrut Prajapati, an Ayurveda doctor was shot dead outside his clinic.

Moreover, there are charges against Narayan Sai of attempting to bribe policemen of Rs 8 crore for helping him getting bail.
