Gujarat man loses Rs 78 lakh in online poker game, commits suicide

A man committed suicide in Rajkot district of Gujarat after he lost 78 lakh Rs while playing an online poker game, local police informed on Sunday.

According to the reports, 39-years-old Krunal Mehta jumped into a well on Wednesday night and ended his life. A police officer reportedly informed that the next morning his body was found floating in the well.

Police inspector Vikram Vanzara said, “Our inquiry revealed that he committed suicide as he lost Rs 78 lakh while playing a poker game on his mobile phone. Also, we have recovered a suicide note from his home in which he had stated that he borrowed Rs 78 lakh from his friends and relatives to lay the game ‘PokerBaazi’.”

He further informed that the deceased worked for an IT company. He had shared his bank account details with the online gaming app. His brother received an e-mail after his death which showed his bank transaction details.

The police’s cyber cell is also investigating the case, Vanzara said.
