A goof-up committed by Dushyant Chautala of the Jannayak Janta Party JJP while taking oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana could cause legal hurdles in his taking over the office of the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
During the course of reading out the oath, he being a first-timer was heard saying “Bharat rajya ke up- mukhyamantri ke roop mein shapath leta hun”. This amounted to his saying that taking oath as “deputy CM of India”, instead of Haryana.
The JJP has joined the BJP government headed by Manohar Lal Khattar, helping it attain a comfortable majority after the single largest party fell short of simple majority by six seats.
Earlier, JJP won 10 seats in the 90-member assembly of Haryana while BJP won 40. This made it a perfect scenario for the JJP to exploit the political situation. Congress won a total of 30 seats while others won 7.
