Wife of the Additional Sessions Judge who was shot at by the officer’s own personal security officer (PSO) died in Medanta Hospital, Gurugram. Police Commissioner K.K. Rao confirmed to The Hindu that Ritu Kant, 37, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday around 10:30 pm.

The judge’s wife, Ritu, had received two gunshots in her chest and stomach. The condition of the son, Dhruv, 18, remains to be critical. Dhruv received three gunshot injuries, one on the shoulder and two on the head.

She and her son were shot by the policeman in broad daylight on a busy road in Sector 49, Gurgaon on Saturday afternoon.

Judge Kant, has said in the first information report (FIR) that Mahipal got agitated when his son Dhruv asked him for the keys to the car. Dhruv and his mother were returning home after shopping.

Mahipal then rushed towards my wife and son without any provocation and shot at them, Kant said in the FIR. He claimed that the sequence of events was as told to him by his wife at the hospital.

Police Commissioner Rao told mediapersons that Mahipal Singh went to a village in Islampur, after running away from the crime spot. He spent an hour with a friend. He told his friend that the judge’s wife and son had met with an accident. Later, he confided in him that he had shot them. Mahipal’s friend then informed the police.

Police have arrested the gunman Mahipal.
