The Hush Post: A Haryanvi folk singer was found dead with her throat slit in Baniyani village of Rohtak district, also the native village of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The singer, identified as 40-year-old Mamta Sharma, used to perform at religious gatherings. Her body was found in the bushes on Thursday afternoon by villagers passing by.
Sharma’s son Bharat said his mother had left home with her associate Mohit Kumar to attend an event in Gohana on January 14 after which she went missing. According to Kumar, while on her way to Gohana she joined the occupants of another car at Lahli village, she had said she was going with her friend to Kalanaur and would return to Gohana in an hour. There was no track of her whereabouts since then and an FIR was lodged in Kalanaur police station. A case has been registered . There have been a string of events in Haryana where singing artists have been threatened or killed. Two months ago, another popular Haryanvi singer, Harshita Dahiya, was shot dead in Panipat. On January 3, another Haryanvi singer and dancer Aarti Bhoria had registered a complaint that she was being threatened.
