The Indian National Lok Dal in Haryana is headed for a vertical split with leader of opposition in the state assembly Abhay Chautala expelling his brother Ajay Chautala from INLD.
The rivalry between the brothers has been simmering for more than two months now.
Ajay Chautala and senior Chautala have been convicted in a case of corruption. They are currently serving their 10- year jail terms.
In their absence, Abhay has managed the party affairs. Ajay’s son Dushyant who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 has emerged as a strong party face.
Dushyant and his brother Digvijay were also expelled by Om Prakash Chautala last month for anti-party activities. Former CM and INLD president OP Chautala has firmly put his weight behind son Abhay Chautala.
Former Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal and a family friend of Chautala’s has sought to play intermediaries in this family feud. However, it hasn’t helped this far.
The big names who recently resigned include senior national vice-president Jaswinder Khaira and national vice-president Rajesh Dhull. Also, other officer-bearers such as state secretary Mannu Maan and state spokespersons Balraj Deshwal, Vivek Chaudhary and Arvind Bhardwaj have resigned.
The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), was a force to reckon with in Haryana politics. Now, though, they are staring at difficult times.
