The Karnal doctor who was shot at on Saturday evening has succumbed to his injuries. Dr. Rajiv Gupta, the renowned medic from Karnal and MD of Amritdhara Hospital was shot at by three unidentified youths in Sector 16 on Saturday evening.
Now, the police say that they have been able to crack the case. A former employee of Dr. Gupta has been detained for interrogation apart from six other persons.
The local SP is expected to give details of the murder at a press conference today. DGP Manoj Yadav, who arrived in the city, inspected the crime scene. “We have detained several persons in this connection and are verifying the facts. I appeal to all the doctors and chemists to resume their work,” the DGP said.
Chief Minister M.L. Khattar is also shortly going to reach the residence of Dr. Gupta.
The incident took place around 6.30 pm on Saturday, when Dr Gupta was going to his new Amritdhara hospital at ITI Chowk from the old Amritdhara hospital in Chora Bazaar in his SUV with driver Sahil. The three bike-borne assailants suddenly appeared in front of Dr Gupta’s car and forced the driver to stop the vehicle. As per the eyewitnesses, they fired thrice and Dr Gupta, who was sitting in the front seat, received two bullet injuries. After the firing, the assailants managed to flee.
The eyewitnesses said, the assailants wore masks and shot the doctor from point blank range. Dr Gupta immediately fell unconscious and the driver rushed him to the hospital with the help of passersby, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
