These investors will take care of the maintenance of the stoppages, bearing the electricity bills etc., and in return display their advertisements on them.
The Hush Post: In a move which could provide much-needed respite to thousands of passengers who commute by buses daily, the Panchkula Municipal Corporation plans to come up with air-conditioned (AC) bus shelters in various parts of the city.
These AC bus stoppages would come up in association with some promoters on a quid-pro-quo basis. As of now, the Municipal Corporation has identified Hafed, Dairy Development Department, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIDC) as the potential investors and is contacting them. These investors would be taking care of the maintenance of the stoppages, bearing the electricity bills etc., and turn put up their advertisements on them.
MC proposes four AC bus stops
As of the MC has proposed four AC bus stops which would come up at Sector-1 Government College, Sector-14 Government Girls College, Mata Mansa Devi Mandir and one at a place across river Ghaggar.
According to MC officials, if these bus shelters prove a success, new such bus shelters will be erected in other parts of the city, and they might even provide some basic amenities.
It is to be noted that Panchkula would be the first city in the country to come up with such AC bus shelters. As of now, places like Dubai, London and Athens have such stoppages.
