Police booked a 55-year-old man for biting a teenage girl’s face. And that wasn’t it. He tried to rape her. The incident took place at Bahu Akbarpur village in Haryana’s Rohtak district earlier this week.
Although the incident occurred on Wednesday morning, a case was registered on Saturday. The FIR was lodged only after some local women rights activists protested in front of the Sadar police station.
As per the complaint, the accused – identified as Sukhbir Singh entered the 14-year-old girl’s house while her mother was at work in the fields. When she resisted, he allegedly bit her repeatedly which caused profuse bleeding.
That is when the victim’s mother returned home, only to find accused Sukhbir in the act of disrobing the teenager. “He fled as soon as he saw me,” she said.
The mother alleged the police initially refused to register a complaint. It was only after a protest that the police relented.
Police have lodged a case against Singh under Sections 376 (sexual assault), 452 (trespass and hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
