A woman has been detained for allegedly attempting to throw a ‘chappal’ at Punjab local bodies minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu during a public meeting. The incident took place at Rohtak in Haryana on Tuesday. However, Sidhu had a narrow escape as the shoe did not hit him. When questioned by the police, the woman said that she threw the slipper because “Sidhu spoke against Modi.”
In Rohtak, the poll fight is between Congress’ Deepender Hooda, the son of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and BJP’s Arvind Singh who is a three-time MP. This is not for the first time Sidhu has been attacked by an angry crowd.
Earlier on Friday, Sidhu was attacked with tomatoes while he was on his way to campaign in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. Men surrounding the convoy were shouting slogans of “Sidhu go back” and “Pakistan vapas jao.”
