A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a sanitation worker in a private school in Sector-70 of Gurugram. The girl had revealed her ordeal to her parents who then approached the school authorities.
According to the police, the suspect had allegedly taken the kindergarten student to the school’s toilet and sexually assaulted her.
“The girl went to her house and complained to her mother of pain in her private parts and the mother applied an ointment. As the pain persisted, the parents talked to her to find out the cause of the pain,” police said.
The police added, “Naming the suspect, the girl told her parents that the uncle is bad. This (Thursday) morning the parents went to the school and confronted the school authorities about the incident. Then the school authorities informed the police and handed over the suspect.”
The 28-year-old suspect was working in the school for the last six years. An FIR has been registered under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
The medical examination of the girl has been conducted. Her mother’s statement recorded before a city magistrate under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
The police said that they are investigating if there was a lapse from the school authorities in providing security to the student.
In Gurugram, the cases filed under the POSCO Act have increased from 140 in 2017 to 181 cases (till December 28) in 2018.
