In yet another pathetic case of police inaction, a young woman was forced to commit suicide after the police didn’t act on her rape complaint.

The shocking incident has been reported from Yamunanagar district in Haryana. The 22-year-old woman committed suicide outside the Jathlana police station on Monday evening.

Reports say the woman had gone to the Jathlana police station to know the status of her complaint. Her kin had accompanied her.  However, the police officials allegedly didn’t pay heed. Distraught, the woman consumed some poisonous substance.

News 18 reported that the police didn’t even bother to take the woman to the hospital. Her king rushed to a local hospital where she died.

The members of the deceased’s family have accused the local police officials of not acting on her complaint. The woman had filed a complaint around 12 days ago.

However, the police have refuted the charges. Yamunanagar Deputy Superintendent of Police Subhash Chand on Tuesday said the woman had “eloped” with one Manoj Kumar three months ago. He said that the woman had given a statement in a court that she went with Manoj on her own.

Her family later lodged a rape complaint against Manoj, police said.

The police have registered a case against six persons, including Manoj, under Section 306 of the IPC.

Police have sent three of its employees to the Police Lines after the incident.
