Class XII student gets burnt after cousin throws petrol at her, mother was the target

The Hush Post: When he failed to get his money back, a 37-year-old man in Kapurthala threw petrol on a Class XII girl student who sustained 25 per cent burns on her arms and chest.  The girl was making tea in the kitchen when the accused, Hardish Singh Disa, who was carrying the canister containing petrol, asked for salt. “He said that he needed to mix salt in some liquid he was going to drink. However, he hurled petrol at my daughter,” the girl’s mother Manjit Kaur told a regional newspaper.

However, Gabbar Singh, SHO, city police station, Kapurthala, said, “Disa wanted to target Manjit Kaur, but the petrol fell on her daughter and caught fire.”

The victim ran outside the house and raised the alarm. Neighbours caught Disa and handed him over to the police. The girl was taken to the local Civil Hospital. Doctors said she had sustained burns on her arms and bosom. The girl’s father reportedly owed money to the accused, he committed the crime after he failed to get his money back, the police said. An FIR has been lodged.
