The Hush Post: Though BJP party president and Prime Minster Narendra Modi could not give Bilaspur its first chief minister, the Narendra Modi led BJP government has given Bilaspur its first All India Institute Of Medical Sciences.
The union cabinet has approved setting up of the Rs 1,350 crore project, the foundation stone for which was laid by Modi last year, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakhsa Yojna.
According to an official statement, the 750-bed AIIMS will have a medical college with an intake capacity of 100 seats and a nursing college with 60 seats.
The new AIIMS which will have 20 speciality and super speciality departments including 15 operation theatres, work on which will be completed in 48 months.
While former health minister Kaul Singh Thakur was keen on setting-up AIIMS at Ner Chowk in Mandi, where infrastructure due to location of the ECI Hospital and college is already ready, former transport minister G S Bali had been lobbying for Kangra. While former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and MP Anurag Thakur had been asking for locating AIIMS in Hamirpur parliamentary constituency. Finally, former chief minister Virbhadra Singh had given his nod for AIIMS at Bilaspur because of its central location and JP Nadda as the central health minister was able to bring it to his home district.
