On January 11, 2018, the mother found her daughter missing. The family thought as usual she had gone to play. When the family started searched for her, her body was found lying on a bed in a small room located nearby. A piece of cloth was tied around her neck. The police had registered a case of murder and sexual assault. Later, the postmortem report confirmed it. On Friday, the police arrested a migrant labourer identified as Raj Kumar Rishidev of Bihar, from Punjab, confirmed the Deputy Superintendent of Police Gopal Verma. According to the police, Raju had come to the village a few days ago as a labourer. On Thursday, he enticed the girl to his room and committed the ghastly crime before vanishing.
The increasing cases of crimes against children are now reaching an alarming proportion. In 2017, an eight-year-old girl of a migrant family had also met a similar fate. Her body was found later in the vicinity. The district police had faced a hard time tracing the culprit but finally arrested him in August. While, in most of Himachal, crimes like murder and rape and few and far between Baddi police district is notorious in reporting such cases.
